The Empty Basin
The Empty Basin explores the quiet complexity of underwater ecosystems through fiber and reclaimed materials. Inspired by the movement of seagrass and seaweed, the work considers the fragile balance between abundance and absence, inviting reflection on the shifting conditions of coastal environments.

Constructed from recycled fabric and yarn, the surface is built through cutting, fraying, layering, and stitching, allowing the materials to echo the organic structures found beneath the water's surface. A deep green ombré palette gradually transitions to lighter tones, evoking changing depths, filtered light, and the subtle movement of water. Elongated yarn tendrils emerge from the form like strands of seaweed, creating a sense of suspended motion that suggests both growth and impermanence.

By transforming discarded textiles into an abstract aquatic landscape, The Empty Basin reflects on cycles of renewal, adaptation, and ecological interconnectedness.
