This is the video I created for the Altered Book Art Journal class I am hoping to teach in January. I created a book to demo because I understand that younger students may not understand my more abstract books.
I kept my own style with the textures, shapes and lines I use, but I used a subject matter that I thought my students could more closely relate to: animals and nature.
I am very happy with this book. It was totally out of my comfort zone in terms of colors and materials. I usually only use my own art, but in this case I used old wrapping paper. Maps are in my books as well. I added buttons, beads, fabric, lots of paper, gesso, paint, stamps, and mesh to the pages.
The book is similar to my own books because this also is a self-portrait. I am telling the story with beads, pictures and hidden hints.
